A day built around one meal
I had a free Saturday and decided to stretch my legs and check out Arizona Falls. The quirky public art and mini-hydroelectric plant were definitely worth the trip. As I was mapping out my next move, I realized I was close to Taco Guild, a place I'd been meaning to try. Set in an old church, the building itself was enough to draw me in. And after a day of walking around the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix, a little taco sounded perfect.
Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by the high ceilings and stained-glass windows – a far cry from your average taqueria. The atmosphere was lively but relaxed, a great spot for a casual bite with friends. I started with the essentials: Guacamole ($11.00), because you have to, right? This one was fresh and vibrant, perfectly balanced with pico de gallo and cotija cheese. I added the jalapeño bacon for an extra kick; highly recommend. I also sampled the CHICHARRONES ($7.00). The house-fried pork skin seasoned with tajín was crisp, salty, and absolutely addictive.
For the main event, I decided to try a couple of different tacos. The Crispy Pork Belly taco ($8.50), topped with house-made kimchi and gochujang aioli, was a standout. The flavors were bold and unexpected, a delicious fusion of Mexican and Asian influences. I also went for the classic Street Style Carnitas ($7.50), twelve-hour braised pork garnished simply with red onions and cilantro. Both were delicious, but that pork belly taco… I might need to go back for another one soon.
I almost forgot to mention the drinks! While I didn't indulge this time around, their tequila selection looked impressive. Maybe next time, after a stroll around Enchanted Island Amusement Park, I will sample their tequila.
The whole experience felt special, like a treat. Taco Guild is more than just a place to grab a quick bite; it's a destination. If you are looking for more than just a taco, and want something memorable, I recommend stopping by.
