A day built around one meal
Okay, friends, let me tell you about my recent Salt Lake City adventure! My bestie from college, Sarah, finally convinced me to take a weekend road trip out to visit. After promising her a mountain of cute pics for the 'gram, I packed my bags. We kicked things off with a dose of nostalgia at This Is The Place Heritage Park. It was fun strolling through the park and learning more about local history!
After all that walking, my tummy started rumbling. Sarah suggested Ozora Izakaya, and oh my goodness, am I glad she did! This place is seriously a hidden gem. It's got a modern, stylish vibe that's totally Instagrammable, but the real star is the sushi. They have a menu featuring an array of classic & creative sushi rolls & Japanese fare in a modern setting.
We started with a couple of their signature rolls, and it was the right move. First, we tried the MIYAZAKI ($20), and WOW. Seared wagyu beef on top of a sushi roll? Genius! The combination of flavors – the avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo, and that hint of truffle oil – was out of this world. Then we devoured the SAKE AVOCADO ($18), which was equally delicious, with seared salmon, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. I was already planning my next visit! I was also tempted by the TORO ROLL ($18) and the SHIBUYA ($16), so those are next on my list for sure.
I noticed they have a bunch of Maki Rolls too. I love that I could have just grabbed a super affordable AVO MAKI ($5) or a TEMPURA VEGGIE ($6) if I wanted something light. But I was on vacation, so I was there for the good stuff!
After lunch, we debated what to do next. We thought about checking out the Museum of Illusions - Salt Lake City for some mind-bending fun, but instead opted for a relaxing stroll through Memory Grove. It was the perfect way to unwind after such a delicious meal.
What makes Ozora Izakaya special? It's more than just the incredibly fresh fish and creative combinations. It's the care and attention to detail that goes into each roll. You can tell they're passionate about what they do. Plus, the service was fantastic!
If you're in Salt Lake City, do yourself a favor and visit Ozora Izakaya. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or just looking for a delicious meal, this place will not disappoint. And maybe swing by Memory Grove or the Museum of Illusions afterward to make a whole day of it! Trust me, your taste buds (and your Instagram feed) will thank you!
