A day built around one meal
Okay, friends, you know I love a good food adventure! This past weekend, I took a little road trip to visit my bestie. We started the day with a classic Central Park stroll, soaking in the sunshine and fall foliage. I was feeling peckish after all that walking, and since we were nearby, I decided to check out Gramercy Tavern.
Let me tell you, this Michelin-starred gem lives up to the hype! Gramercy Tavern is located in the Flatiron District, and they describe themselves as a tavern with a menu of modern, seasonal American dishes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, a perfect blend of casual and elegant. It's the kind of place where you can feel comfortable dressing up or down. It's a restaurant that makes you feel at home, but with food that's out of this world.
First of all, let's talk about the menu. It's seasonal, so it changes, but everything sounded incredible. It was so hard to choose! I finally landed on a few things, and I'm already dreaming of going back for more.
I started with the HIRAMASA* ($32), with apples, turnips, and shiso. The freshness of the fish combined with the crisp apples was the perfect autumn bite. Next up was the Hay-Smoked Gnocchi ($29), featuring mushrooms, cashews, and swiss chard. The gnocchi were perfectly pillowy, and the smoky flavor was so unique. I also couldn't resist the sound of the Squid Ink Caramelle ($34), with cauliflower, lobster, and pickled peppers. Sweet, savory, and a little bit spicy? Yes, please!
For my main course, I opted for the Heritage Pork Loin & Belly ($48), served with carrots, cabbage, and sesame. The pork was cooked to perfection, and the combination of textures and flavors was divine. Seriously, every bite was an explosion of deliciousness.
Of course, I had to save room for dessert! I chose the Hazelnut Tart ($18), with brown butter, cranberry, and orange. It was the perfect sweet ending to a perfect meal. They also had a Chocolate Cake ($18) with cherry, hickory, and almond, which I'm definitely trying next time.
One of the things that makes Gramercy Tavern so special is their commitment to using fresh, seasonal ingredients. You can really taste the quality in every dish. The service was also impeccable – attentive without being intrusive.
Before heading back, we took a detour to Washington Square Park. It's always buzzing with energy and people watching there is some of the best in the city!
If you're looking for a truly memorable dining experience, I highly recommend Gramercy Tavern. It's a little bit of a splurge, but trust me, it's worth it. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to something amazing, this place is a winner. Go check it out, and tell me what you think! You might even find me there on my next adventure!
