A day built around one meal
Alright y'all, let me tell you about my recent adventure in OKC! I was in town visiting my bestie, Sarah, who just moved into a super cool loft downtown. We'd planned to explore the OKC Underground, which is seriously fascinating, and I knew I needed to find some grub to fuel our adventure. Sarah suggested Bourbon St. Cafe, and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint.
Walking into Bourbon St. Cafe is like stepping straight into the French Quarter. The atmosphere is lively, the staff is super friendly, and the air is thick with the aroma of spices and seafood. It's an upbeat Cajun & Creole eatery serving famed crab dip & more amid a New Orleans-style ambiance! I knew instantly that I was in for a treat.
Oh My Gumbo-ness!
Okay, deciding what to order was a challenge. Everything on the menu sounded incredible! We started with the Alligator Bites ($19) – perfectly fried with a spicy kick. I also couldn't resist trying the Crab Dip ($16), which lived up to all the hype. It's a creamy, cheesy, crabby masterpiece served with warm pita chips. For my main course, I went with the Louisiana Gumbo ($14), and it was the perfect blend of savory and spicy, packed with chicken, andouille sausage, and veggies. Sarah got the Red Bean & Rice ($8), and let me tell you, it was AMAZING! We both were so stuffed but so happy.
More Than Just Great Food
Bourbon St. Cafe is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the food is authentic and delicious. I'm already planning my next visit, and next time I'm determined to try The "Big Easy" ($65) which is a platter of almost all the starters! The Boudin Balls ($14) are also calling my name.
After our amazing meal, we decided to head over to Brickopolis Entertainment for some arcade games and mini-golf. It's just a short drive away, and it was the perfect way to burn off some of that delicious Cajun food. We even talked about hitting up the Oklahoma City Adventure District the next day for more fun!
Final Verdict
If you're looking for a taste of New Orleans in Oklahoma City, Bourbon St. Cafe is a MUST. Seriously, treat yourself! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but definitely start with the Alligator Bites and the Crab Dip. And hey, if you see me there next time, be sure to say hi! I'll be the one happily devouring a plate of Oysters Bienville ($21) and humming some zydeco tunes.
