A day built around one meal
Okay, you guys know I'm a sucker for good sushi, and I've been hearing whispers about Blue Ribbon Sushi in NYC for ages. I finally decided to make a weekend road trip to the city to visit my bestie, Maya, and squeezing in a visit to Blue Ribbon was top priority.
After a morning stroll through Central Park (seriously, how gorgeous is that place?), I made my way downtown, stomach rumbling. Blue Ribbon Sushi is described as a "relaxed sushi bar offering classic rolls and sake in a cozy, traditional atmosphere" on Google, and that's exactly the vibe I got as soon as I walked in.
First Impressions & Menu Must-Haves
The place was buzzing, but in a chill, sophisticated way. I snagged a spot at the sushi bar and was immediately greeted by a super friendly chef. The menu is extensive, but I had done my research (duh!), so I knew what I wanted to try.
First up, I couldn't resist the classics: some Tuna, Salmon, and Shrimp sushi. The fish was incredibly fresh, practically melting in my mouth. But then, things got interesting! I decided to branch out and ordered the SAKE YAKIMONO ($34.00) – pan-seared salmon with steamed bok choy and yuzu-butter sauce. O.M.G. The yuzu-butter sauce was a game changer! So flavorful and perfectly balanced. Next time I think I'll splurge on the ISE EBI ($68.00), steamed lobster with miso butter. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
For those who like rolls, they have a huge selection. You can always keep it simple with the classic Cucumber Roll. If you're in the mood for something spicy, I highly recommend the HONDO ($38.00), which is an assorted spicy gungkan & rolls. Or if you want to try the spot's namesake, go for the BLUE RIBBON ($38.00) which has 1/2 lobster, shiso & black caviar.
More Than Just Sushi
What really sets Blue Ribbon Sushi apart is the quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail. You can tell they take pride in what they do. It's not just about slapping some rice and fish together; it's about creating an experience. And it's also not a stuffy experience – the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
After my amazing lunch, I took a walk through Washington Square Park, soaking up the city vibes and people-watching. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.
If you're ever in NYC and looking for a truly memorable sushi experience, you HAVE to go to Blue Ribbon Sushi. And if you've got time after, maybe even catch a show near Bryant Park (another NYC gem!). Trust me, your taste buds (and your Instagram feed) will thank you. You might even spot me there on my next visit! I'm already planning my return trip – maybe next time I'll go for the OMAKASE (TOSHI'S CHOICE PER PERSON at $150.00) and let the chef surprise me. What do you think, should I?!
