A day built around one meal
Okay, you guys know I'm always on the hunt for the next foodie adventure, and this weekend's trip to Shoreline, WA, totally delivered! My college bestie, Sarah, just moved up here, so naturally, I had to make a visit. After grabbing a latte at Blackbird Cafe & Bar (seriously, their pastries are to die for!), we decided to explore the neighborhood. And boy, am I glad we did because we stumbled upon a gem: Triumph Valley Shoreline.
This place is legit. I'd heard whispers about it from a few of you (thanks for the tip!), and let me tell you, it lives up to the hype. It's not your typical Americanized Chinese restaurant; this is the real deal, serving up authentic Cantonese flavors that will transport you straight to Hong Kong.
Diving into Deliciousness
First things first, the menu is HUGE. Seriously, you could eat here every day for a month and still not try everything. We started with a few appetizers that blew my mind. The SALT & PEPPER CHICKEN WINGS 椒鹽雞翅 ($18.95) were crispy, savory, and had just the right amount of kick. We also couldn't resist the SALT & PEPPER SQUID 椒鹽花枝 ($19.95), which was perfectly tender and not at all chewy. And for something a little different, we tried the JELLYFISH SALAD 涼拌海蜇 ($16.95) – surprisingly refreshing and a textural delight!
For something heartier, we sampled the CREAMY DEEP-FRIED OYSTER 酥炸生蠔 ($18.95) - a decadent treat that I won't soon forget. And we couldn't leave without trying one of their signature dishes: the SALT & PEPPER SHRIMP W/ FRUIT 果香沙律蝦 ($20.95). Imagine perfectly battered shrimp in a creamy, sweet mayonnaise-based sauce, served with juicy diced watermelon. It sounds crazy, I know, but trust me, it WORKS! It was recommended by our fantastic server.
Soup-erb Choices
We also split a bowl of the CRAB MEAT & FISH MAW SOUP 蟹肉魚肚羹 ($20.95). It was rich, flavorful, and packed with real crab meat. Perfect for a chilly day (or any day, really!). If you are looking for something with a bit of spice, the HOT & SOUR SOUP 酸辣湯 ($16.95) is another great choice.
Shoreline Shenanigans
The atmosphere at Triumph Valley Shoreline is warm and inviting. It's the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy good food, and catch up with friends. Plus, the service was fantastic – our server was super friendly and helpful with recommendations.
After our feast, we considered grabbing some seafood at Bag O Crab (I've heard great things!), but we were way too full. Maybe next time! Or we could have gone to Eden Garden Cafe for some dessert. But after so much food, we just went back to Sarah's and took a nap.
Final Verdict
Triumph Valley Shoreline is a must-try if you're in the Shoreline area. The authentic Cantonese cuisine, friendly service, and reasonable prices make it a winner in my book. Seriously, add it to your list! And hey, maybe I'll see you there – I'm already planning my next visit to try the FRIED CRAB W/ DRY GARLIC 避風塘蟹 ($58.95). You should definitely give it a shot!
