A day built around one meal
Okay, friends, you know I'm always on the hunt for a good food adventure! Last weekend, I was chatting with a follower who RAVED about The Food Market in Columbia, MD, so I decided to make a day of it. Plus, I had been meaning to visit my friend who lives in the area. And OMG, it did not disappoint!
First things first, I made sure to carve out some time for a little nature therapy. I swung by the Robinson Nature Center, which is seriously cool – they have some amazing exhibits and trails. I was trying to find the perfect fall leaf to press and send to my niece. Afterwards, I made a pit stop at The Food Market, ready to dive headfirst into their menu.
According to their tagline, The Food Market is a "Laid-back venue fixing up meat dishes, seafood, burgers & desserts, plus cocktails & weekend brunch." I was immediately drawn to their cocktail selection, which is nothing short of epic. And you know I love cocktails!
Let's talk drinks! Their cocktail menu alone is enough to make you want to camp out for the night. I started with the "W.A.S.P. (WHISKEY AND SPICY PEPPER)" ($12.00) – redemption bourbon, ginger, lemon, jalapeño, bitters, ginger beer. The perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and boozy. It was a flavor bomb! Then I went with the "MARY JANE" ($12.00) — tres agaves reposado, avocado, lime, agave nectar, chili powder, pepper salt. Yes, you read that right, *avocado*! It was surprisingly refreshing and unique; a must-try for the adventurous.
I was tempted by so many things, but I eventually settled on some of the other options I saw being carted out. I was not disappointed. Plus, the service was super friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. I overheard another guest order "BOHEMIAN RASPBERRY ($12.00) — wheatley vodka, creme de framboises, maraschino liqueur, pineapple, lemon" and thought that sounded delicious too!
What makes The Food Market special? It's the perfect spot for a casual yet elevated dining experience. It has that neighborhood gem vibe but with a menu that screams culinary creativity. The options are endless, from burgers to seafood, and I didn't even make it to the dessert menu. That just means I'll have to go back!
Before heading back home, I took a stroll through Lake Elkhorn Park. It's such a peaceful spot, perfect for a post-meal wander and soaking in the last bit of daylight. If I had more time, I would have loved to let my niece run around Blandair Regional Park West Playground, it's supposed to be amazing for kids!
So, here's my verdict: If you're looking for a fun and delicious spot in Columbia, MD, The Food Market is a MUST. Seriously, make a day of it, explore the local area, and treat yourself to some amazing food and drinks. You won't regret it. I can't wait to come back and try more of their cocktails – maybe I'll see you there!
