A day built around one meal
Okay, friends, let me tell you about my recent Kauai adventure! I’d been hearing whispers from you guys about how gorgeous Waimea Canyon State Park is, so I finally booked a little weekend road trip. Between the breathtaking views and stunning hikes, I was in total awe. All that fresh air and exploring definitely worked up an appetite!
That’s when I discovered The Fish And The Hog in Waimea. Seriously, you guys, this place is the real deal. Located in a super charming historic building, it’s got this rustic, laid-back vibe that just screams "island life." And the food? Forget about it!
First of all, the menu is HUGE, and my eyes immediately went to the pupu section! After much deliberation (everything sounded amazing!), I went with the BBQ Pork Nachos ($23) because pineapple salsa on nachos?! YES PLEASE. The combo of the slow-cooked pork, creamy guacamole, and sweet-and-tangy salsa was unreal. I also had to try the Deep Fried Brussel Sprouts ($11) with chipotle aioli and red pepper flakes, and they were surprisingly addictive! And because I couldn’t resist, I also grabbed an order of the Crispy Garlic Shrimp ($16). So good!
They have a little bit of everything. I saw someone with the Smokehouse Salad, featuring BBQ brisket, blue cheese, sauteed mushrooms, egg, tomatoes, bacon, and crispy onions, which was priced at $19.95. If I wasn't so full, I definitely would have ordered it! Next time, I am going to get the Reuben Spring Rolls ($15).
What makes The Fish And The Hog so special, in my opinion, is the unique blend of flavors. Where else can you find amazing BBQ alongside fresh seafood dishes? It’s the perfect representation of Kauai’s diverse culinary scene.
Plus, the location is prime! You could easily spend the morning exploring the lush Waimea Valley with its beautiful botanical gardens and cascading waterfall, then swing by The Fish And The Hog for a late lunch. Or, if you're looking for a little retail therapy, the Parker Ranch Center is just a short drive away. So, grab your sunscreen, your appetite, and get ready for a day of fun in Waimea!
Honestly, I can't recommend The Fish And The Hog enough. If you're ever on the west side of Kauai, it's an absolute MUST-TRY. Promise me you'll order those BBQ Pork Nachos for me! You won't regret it!
