A day built around one meal
Okay, y'all, let me tell you about my impromptu Baltimore adventure! I hopped in the car for a weekend road trip, needing a change of scenery, and a follower suggested I check out Druid Hill Park. I spent the morning wandering through the park's trails, totally getting lost in its beauty (in the best way possible!). After all that walking, my stomach started rumbling. Luckily, I had heard whispers about a place nearby called Tavern at Woodberry Kitchen.
And let me tell you, this place is special. The tagline says it all: "Old factory turned hip, rustic-chic place for refined New American fare with a farm-to-table bent." The Google description echoes this sentiment, and I can confirm, it's 100% accurate. The vibe is cozy but cool, and you can tell they put a lot of love into every detail.
First things first: the cocktails. I started with the 'WK Old Fashioned' ($16.00) made with Rittenhouse rye, sorghum, and sarsparilla bitters. It was the perfect balance of smoky and sweet – exactly what I needed. My friend went with the 'Strawberry Mint Julep' ($16.00) made with Old Forester bourbon, strawberries, and mint, and it was bursting with summer flavor. If you are not drinking alcohol, they have great zero-proof options as well, like the 'Concrete Rose' ($10.00), which is WK black raspberry syrup, fresh lemon, and sparkling water.
While sipping, I perused the menu. Everything sounded incredible, but I ultimately decided on a few dishes to share. We opted for a few glasses of Cava... O Rossell Brut Nature, Penedes, Spain 2021 ($13.00). And then went for the Lambrusco... Folicello 'Il Rosso', Emilia, Italy 2021 ($14.00). To start we ordered the Chardonnay...Chatham Vineyards, Virginia 2022 ($11.00) and the Pinot Grigio... Oynos, Terre Siciliane, Italy 2022 ($12.00).
What makes Tavern at Woodberry Kitchen so unique is their commitment to using local, seasonal ingredients. You can taste the freshness in every bite. It really feels like you're supporting local farmers and artisans when you dine here, which is something I always look for.
After my amazing meal, I was considering a stroll over to Rash Field Park before heading home. If I had more time I would have stopped at the Maryland Science Center for a fun, educational afternoon. But the call of my comfy couch was too strong!
If you're ever in the Baltimore area, especially if you're exploring Druid Hill Park, make sure to treat yourself to a meal at Tavern at Woodberry Kitchen. You won't regret it! Seriously, it's the kind of place that makes you feel good from the inside out. I'm already planning my next visit!
