A day built around one meal
Okay, y'all, let me tell you about my impromptu Charleston adventure! I was in town visiting my bestie Sarah (long overdue catch-up!), and we decided to hit up the Charleston City Market for some local crafts and souvenirs. I swear, you can find ANYTHING there. After wandering through the stalls, admiring the sweetgrass baskets, and soaking up the atmosphere, my stomach started rumbling louder than a carriage tour.
I'd actually seen a follower recommend Santi's Restaurante Mexicano, so I knew it was nearby and was immediately game to check it out. I knew I was in the right place when I saw the eclectic chandeliers hanging inside – talk about setting the mood! Forget minimalist, this place is all about vibrant, festive vibes.
Santi's: Where the Flavors POP!
First things first: the *Queso Dip* ($6.75). It's a must-order. Creamy, cheesy, and perfect with their crispy tortilla chips. We also grabbed the *Queso Fundido* ($8.75), because why not? It was deliciously gooey and flavorful. For my main course, I couldn't resist the *Enchiladas Suizas* ($14.75) with chicken. The ranchero sauce was perfectly mild and the cheese was melty and delicious. Sarah opted for the *Mexican Shrimp Tacos* ($18.50) and was raving about the fresh shrimp and perfectly balanced spices. I snuck a bite (don't tell!) and they were AMAZING. If you’re looking for something a little different, I’ve heard whispers about the *Pollo en Mole Poblano* ($17.00) and its sweet chocolate notes, so that’s next on my list. Oh! And a *Mexican Taco* with pastor ($3.75) is a must to sample the delicious marinated pork.
After lunch, we strolled over to the Pineapple Fountain for some classic Charleston photos. It's such a cute spot, and the kids splashing around were having a blast! We even took a leisurely walk through Marion Square, just enjoying the sunshine and people-watching. It's so nice to have a big green space right in the heart of the city.
Why Santi's Stands Out
What really sets Santi's apart is the authenticity. It's not your run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex. They clearly use fresh ingredients and traditional recipes. Plus, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. You definitely get your money's worth!
My Charleston Must-Do
So, if you're ever in Charleston and find yourself wandering around the City Market with a craving for some seriously good Mexican food, do yourself a favor and head to Santi's Restaurante Mexicano. You won't regret it! Trust me, my taste buds are still thanking me. I can’t wait to go back!
