A day built around one meal
Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you least expect them. I was in Centreville to pick up some hardware supplies, stretching a quick errand into a bit of a local exploration. The afternoon sun was hitting just right as I drove past Bull Run Regional Park, thinking I might take a stroll after my shopping. But first, hunger called.
Sō Korean BBQ, with its tagline of "Traditional Korean BBQ in a big, lively space with tableside grills, all-you-can-eat deals & a bar," proved too tempting to ignore. The Google description promised exactly what I needed: a satisfying and engaging meal. I was definitely ready to skip cooking for myself that evening!
Inside, the atmosphere buzzes with energy. The tableside grills are the focal point, each a miniature stage for a personalized culinary performance. The all-you-can-eat format encourages experimentation, and the sheer variety of options is impressive.
Where to begin? I started with the classics. The Chadol Bakgi (thinly sliced brisket) practically melts on the hot grill, cooking in mere seconds. The Dae Pae Sam Kyup Sal (thinly sliced pork belly) crisped up beautifully, demanding a wrap in fresh lettuce. But the Bulgogi (soy garlic sliced rib eye) was the standout, its sweet and savory marinade a perfect counterpoint to the smoky char. All of these are part of the all-you-can-eat experience.
I ventured into the spicier side of the menu, sampling the Kochujang Sam Kyup Sal (spicy pork belly). The heat was assertive but not overwhelming, balanced by the richness of the pork. I also tried the Dak Galbi (spicy chicken) which had a nice kick. For a milder option, the DAK GUI (mild marinated chicken) was succulent and savory.
Beyond the grilled meats, Sō Korean BBQ offers a selection of sides and accompaniments. The Doenjang Jjigae (soybean paste soup) was comforting and flavorful, the perfect foil to the grilled meats. I also enjoyed the Gyeran Jjim (steamed egg) – a light and fluffy dish that was surprisingly delicious. Don't forget the Vegetable platter, featuring onion, mushroom, and winter squash, all perfect to grill alongside your meats. And if you're feeling decadent, the Cheese Fondue is worth a try.
Before heading out, I thought about taking a detour to Fun Land of Fairfax, but ultimately, the hardware called. I made a mental note to visit Historic Centreville Park sometime soon, maybe after another satisfying meal at Sō Korean BBQ.
While the all-you-can-eat prices vary, it's a great deal, especially if you come with a group and plan to sample widely. If you're looking for a fun, interactive, and delicious meal in Centreville, Sō Korean BBQ is absolutely worth a visit. It's a great way to end a day of exploring the area, and I'm already looking forward to my next trip!
