A day built around one meal
I was in Scarborough this weekend, mostly running around The Gateway Shoppes, trying to find a specific shade of paint for a little DIY project. All that running around made me hungry, and I decided to grab a quick bite before heading back. That's how I stumbled into Oishi Japanese Restaurant & Bar, and I'm so glad I did.
Okay, let's be real: I love a good hibachi lunch. And Oishi delivers, big time. They have a great selection, and the prices are amazing. I was torn between the Rib-Eye Steak ($16.00) and the Salmon ($16.00), but ended up going with the salmon. It came with perfectly cooked vegetables and a flavorful fried rice. Seriously, for the price, the portion was huge, and the quality was way better than I expected.
But it's not just the hibachi. My friend, who met me for a late lunch after a morning walk at Scarborough Beach State Park, ordered the Orange w. Chicken ($12.00) from the Kitchen Lunch menu. I snagged a bite, and the sauce was that perfect mix of sweet and tangy. They also have Broccoli, Coconut, Kung Pao, and Garlic options prepared with chicken, beef, or shrimp and priced between $12 and $13. It's the kind of place where you can easily find something for everyone, even if they're not in the mood for sushi.
Speaking of sushi, they have a Sushi Bar Lunch menu as well. I didn't try any on this visit, but I did see that they offer California Rolls and Spicy Yellowtail options. Next time, I'm definitely trying some.
What really makes Oishi stand out, though, is the atmosphere. It's relaxed and welcoming, not stuffy or overly fancy. The service was super friendly, and the whole place just has a good vibe. It's the kind of spot you could pop into after a day of soaking up the sun or strolling down Old Orchard Pier.
Honestly, Oishi Japanese Restaurant & Bar was a total surprise. I wasn't expecting to find such a gem tucked away in Scarborough. If you're in the area and looking for a tasty, affordable, and satisfying meal, I highly recommend checking it out. You won't be disappointed.
