A day built around one meal
Okay, y'all, I have to rave about my recent trip to Providence! I decided to take a little weekend road trip after a follower kept messaging me about how cool Rhode Island is. Of course, I had to check out the food scene, and one spot kept popping up: Nicks on Broadway.
This place lives up to the hype! Described as an "imaginative seasonal New American bistro with open kitchen & casual vibe," it definitely earns its buzz among foodies. It's located right on Broadway, and the moment I walked in, I felt right at home. The open kitchen gives it such a lively, energetic feel. You can tell the chefs are passionate about what they do.
I decided to dive right in with some recommendations from the server. First up: the RI Fluke Crudo ($14). The freshness of the fish, combined with the olive oil, radishes, apples, clementine, herbs, and lemon, was an absolute explosion of flavor. Seriously, so good! I also couldn't resist trying the Charcuterie Plate ($16) because, well, you know I love a good cheese and meat board. Nicks' house-made pâté, terrine, and rillettes were incredible, especially paired with the jam, mustard, and house bread.
For my main course, I opted for the Chicken Parmigiana from the Anniversary Dinner Prix Menu. At $45, it's a bit of a splurge, but totally worth it! Baffoni Farm chicken, tomato sauce, NC mozzarella, provolone, and pecorino... it was comfort food elevated to the next level. They even had a Fish Piccata option substituting RI Fish for the chicken, or a Vegetarian option substituting RI Mushrooms, which sounds great if you're not a chicken person. I finished the meal off with the Banana Cream Pudding from the same menu, also $45. With bananas, whipped cream, and cookie crisp, it was the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal.
To wash it all down, I tried one of their frozen cocktails – the Frozen Rosé + Lime ($8). So refreshing and perfect for a warm day! They also have some pretty interesting cocktails on the menu for $10 each, like the Cherry Bourbon Punch.
Speaking of a warm day, earlier I wandered around Waterplace Park, which was so beautiful! I loved seeing the canals and bridges. It's such a peaceful spot in the middle of the city. I wanted to do something fun with the kids, so I did some quick research and found Carousel Village in Roger Williams Park. A classic carousel and a playground – perfect for burning off some energy. The park is amazing for walking around too.
What makes Nicks on Broadway special? It's the combination of high-quality, seasonal ingredients, a relaxed atmosphere, and the obvious care that goes into every dish. It's not just a meal; it's an experience.
If you're ever in Providence, you HAVE to check out Nicks on Broadway. Seriously, make a reservation now! You won't regret it. It's officially one of my favorite spots, and I can't wait to go back!
