A day built around one meal
Okay, friends, let me tell you about my unexpected adventure in Grand Rapids! I was in town visiting my bestie Sarah (we try to make it a yearly thing!), and our big plan for Saturday was Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Seriously, if you haven't been, add it to your list. We spent hours wandering through the stunning gardens and marveling at the sculptures. All that fresh air and art appreciation made us seriously hungry.
We were driving around, trying to figure out where to grab lunch, when I spotted the sign for Mithu Srilankan & Indian Cuisine. It looked low-key and inviting – exactly what we needed. The Google description confirmed it: "Low-key restaurant offering homestyle Indian & Sri Lankan recipes, plus a weekend lunch buffet." Sold!
And let me tell you, this place is a hidden gem. It's exactly the kind of spot I love to find – unpretentious, authentic, and bursting with flavor. I mean, we all know I love to eat! Mithu Srilankan & Indian Cuisine definitely delivered. I ended up ordering a few things to try: the Chicken Tikka Masala was creamy and flavorful, and I couldn't resist the crispy, golden Pakora. I also grabbed an order of the Butter Naan, which was perfectly soft and buttery. Sarah, who's a vegetarian, went for the Potato & Peas Curry (RV) for just $12.99 – she said the Lankan spices were spot on! We also split an order of the Kesari for dessert.
What really stood out was the sheer variety of options. They have everything from classic Indian dishes to unique Sri Lankan specialties. I was eyeing the Chilli Chicken and the Chicken Biryani for my next visit. And for my veggie friends, they have tons of options! They have everything from Pumpkin with Dal, a vegetarian staple to Potato Beans Curry, Malai Kofta and Vegetable Korma. The prices are super reasonable, too. You can get a hearty and delicious meal without breaking the bank.
After lunch, fueled by delicious spices and good conversation, we decided to take a leisurely stroll through Millennium Park. It was the perfect way to wind down after such a fun day. We considered heading over to Riverside Park, but we were both feeling pretty content and decided to call it a day. Grand Rapids has SO much to offer!
Seriously, if you're ever in the Grand Rapids area, you NEED to check out Mithu Srilankan & Indian Cuisine. It’s the perfect place to refuel after exploring the local parks and gardens. The homestyle cooking and friendly atmosphere make it a truly special experience. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
