A day built around one meal
Okay, you guys KNOW I'm always on the hunt for amazing food finds, and this weekend's adventure in La Crosse, WI, totally delivered! I actually came to town to visit my bestie from college, and we'd heard whispers from a few followers about this place called Lovechild. As soon as I checked out the menu online, I knew we had to go.
First off, La Crosse is seriously charming. We spent the morning strolling through the Riverside International Friendship Gardens – so tranquil and beautiful! It was the perfect way to set the mood for a day of exploring. I even got a little glimpse of Riverside Park and the old Riverside Amusement Park when we drove over to Lovechild.
And Lovechild? Seriously lives up to the hype. Described as a "Modern supper club with seasonal American cuisine & a full bar in stylish environs with happy hour," it's exactly that, but with a cool, unpretentious vibe. The menu is seasonal, so you know everything is super fresh, and the atmosphere is perfect for a fun night out. I'm so glad we went.
We started with a few shareable plates because, obviously, we wanted to try everything. The Spicy mango-jicama salad with avocado, fresno chilies and cotija ($13.50) was an explosion of flavor – perfectly balanced sweet, spicy, and tangy. We also devoured the Arancine, n'duja sausage, provolone, and marinara ($14.50). Seriously, do not sleep on those. And of course, we HAD to get the Triple-cooked French fries with horseradish sauce ($10.75). I love a good fry, and these were next level.
For my main course, I opted for the Baked halibut, salmoriglio sauce, Calabrian chilies, and summer vegetable fregola ($38.50). The halibut was cooked perfectly, and the salmoriglio sauce was so bright and flavorful. My friend went with the Grilled pork tenderloin with Yucatecan adobo, spicy cabbage slaw, and black beans ($29.00), and she practically licked the plate clean.
And for dessert? We split the Pistachio crème brulee ($9.75). The perfect creamy, nutty, sweet ending to a perfect meal.
What makes Lovechild special? It's the combination of high-quality ingredients, creative dishes, and a relaxed atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can dress up or dress down and still feel comfortable. It's clear that the chefs put a lot of love and care into their food, and it shows.
Honestly, if you're ever in La Crosse, you HAVE to check out Lovechild. It's the perfect spot for a date night, a girls' night out, or even just a solo dinner at the bar. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you. And while you're at it, make a day of it and explore the beautiful Riverside area! You know I'll be back!
