A day built around one meal
Okay, friends, let me tell you about my latest food adventure! I was recently on the east side visiting my friend, Leilani, and we decided to do the tourist thing (but, like, the *cool* tourist thing, ya know?). We spent the morning living out our Jurassic Park dreams at Kualoa Ranch. All that ziplining and horseback riding really worked up an appetite!
Leilani, being the local guru she is, steered me away from the overpriced tourist traps and straight to Loco Moco Drive Inn. Tucked away in a basic strip mall, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but trust me, the food is where the magic happens.
First of all, the portions are HUGE. Like, seriously, be prepared to share (or have delicious leftovers for days!). Second, the prices are amazing! We started with some appetizers. I couldn't resist the Dynamite Prawns (8 pcs for just $8.00!), and Leilani grabbed the Green Chilli Poppers (6 pcs for $4.90). Both were crispy, flavorful, and gone in about five minutes. #NoRegrets.
For my main course, I went straight for the classics: the Special Chomain ($8.00)! The noodles were perfectly cooked, the veggies were fresh and crunchy, and the sauce was savory perfection. Leilani opted for the Rostet Peanut ($9.00), a savory stir-fry with a generous helping of peanuts. We also tried the Special Rice ($4.50) and I am now obsessed!
What makes Loco Moco Drive Inn so special? It's the authentic, no-frills, local vibe. It’s clear that the owners pour their heart into every dish. Plus, you can't beat the combination of delicious food and wallet-friendly prices. It's exactly the kind of place you want to find after a long hike. Speaking of hikes, after our Loco Moco feast, we were contemplating burning off some calories with a trek up Koko Crater Arch Trail… but honestly, we were both so stuffed we decided to chill out at Jungle Fun Island instead. Maybe next time, Koko Crater!
If you're ever in the area, especially if you're planning a trip to Kualoa Ranch, do yourself a favor and skip the tourist traps. Head straight to Loco Moco Drive Inn. Order the Dynamite Prawns, the Special Chomain, and thank me later! You won’t regret it. Promise!
