A day built around one meal
So, here's the deal. My bestie, Sarah, just moved up to Portland, and I finally made the trek up to visit her this past weekend. Of course, I had to explore! Sarah knew I wanted to check out the iconic Portland Head Light. We spent the morning soaking in the views, snapping pics, and just breathing in that salty Maine air. Then, after a bit of culture at the Portland Museum of Art, my stomach started rumbling – loud. Sarah suggested Kon Asian Bistro, and guys, I'm SO glad she did.
First off, the vibe is totally my scene. "Glitzy, loungelike space" is the perfect description. It's swanky without being stuffy, and I instantly felt like I was in for a treat. I was ready to dive into some seriously good Asian cuisine!
We started with a few appetizers because, well, why not? The Crispy Calamari ($16.00) was a must-try – perfectly crispy with just the right amount of sweet and spicy kick from the cherry bomb peppers. I also had to try the Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs ($12.00), and they were seriously addictive – the Sheridan pickles added a nice tang! Sarah went with the Waupoo Crostini ($14.00) and said the housemade ricotta was phenomenal.
For my main course, I was torn! But the Salmon ($25.00), with its crispy skin, pancetta, feta, and all those fresh veggies, sounded too good to pass up. And it didn't disappoint! Every bite was an explosion of flavor. Sarah had the Chicken Parmesan ($27.00) and, judging by how quickly she devoured it, I'd say it was a winner. I stole a bite, and the crispy chicken cutlet and fresh basil were amazing.
Kon Asian Bistro has so many great offerings - if I hadn't been so full, I would have considered the Bouillabaisse ($35.00) because I love seafood. I was also eyeing the raw bar options such as the Local Oysters ($3.75) and Shrimp Cocktail ($18.00).
After lunch, we walked around and checked out Bug Light Park (officially known as the South Portland Breakwater Light), which was charming. It was the perfect way to walk off our very full bellies.
If you're ever in Portland, Maine, and looking for a restaurant that's both delicious and has a cool atmosphere, Kon Asian Bistro is a must-try. Seriously, add it to your list! I know I'll be back – probably on my next visit to see Sarah. Maybe I'll see YOU there!
