A day built around one meal
Okay, y'all, confession time: I totally planned a weekend road trip to Charleston just because a follower RAVED about Ko Cha Korean Restaurant. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I mean, sure, I told my friend I was *mostly* coming to see her, but the real MVP of this trip was definitely the food.
After a morning spent browsing the Charleston City Market (seriously, so many cool handmade crafts!), I was starving. We walked a few blocks over, and there it was – Ko Cha, looking all unassuming and ready to serve up some magic.
Don't let the simple, no-frills setting fool you. This place is all about the flavor. I was immediately drawn to the menu, which is packed with Korean staples and other Asian favorites. Honestly, deciding what to order was the hardest part of my day! After much deliberation, I went with the Kal-bi ($16.49) – that's the short rib, thin cut – and my friend opted for the Stone Pot Bibim-Bap ($12.79).
My Kal-bi was tender, juicy, and marinated to perfection. Seriously, each bite was an explosion of savory goodness. And the Bibim-Bap? Served in a sizzling stone pot, it was crispy, flavorful, and everything you want in a comfort food dish. We also split an order of the Spicy Rice Cake ($12.29) because, well, spicy rice cakes are life. Chewy, spicy, slightly sweet – they were the perfect appetizer.
What makes Ko Cha special? It’s definitely the authenticity. The flavors are bold and unapologetic, and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. The portions are also incredibly generous – I definitely had leftovers for lunch the next day (score!).
Before heading back, we took a stroll through Marion Square. It was beautiful with people relaxing and enjoying the Charleston sunshine. We even made a quick stop at the Pineapple Fountain. It’s a Charleston must-see!
Honestly, if you're in Charleston and craving some seriously delicious Korean food, you HAVE to check out Ko Cha. Don't expect anything fancy, just expect amazing food at a great price. I'm already dreaming about trying the Seafood Tofu Soup ($13.79) and the Job Chae ($12.49) on my next visit. Tell them I sent you!
