A day built around one meal
Okay, friends, confession time: I ended up in Southington this weekend completely on a whim! One of my followers messaged me raving about Mammoth Falls, so I packed my bags and hit the road. After a morning of hiking and taking in the gorgeous views, I was starving. I stumbled upon Gohan Japanese Cuisine, and let me tell you, it was the absolute *perfect* fuel for more adventuring.
Seriously, Gohan is doing something special. It's not your typical sushi spot; they specialize in these incredible rice bowls packed with flavor and the freshest ingredients. The vibe is super chill and modern, and everyone working there was so friendly and helpful.
Bowl Me Over!
Deciding what to order was *tough* because everything sounded amazing. After what felt like an eternity, I finally went with the Umami Tuna Bowl ($18.95). The tuna was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the umami shoyu sauce? Seriously, I need to figure out how to recreate that at home! The crispy onions added the *perfect* crunch. My friend decided on the Yuzu Salmon Bowl ($18.95), and after a quick taste (because, you know, sharing is caring!), I was wishing I had ordered that too. The yuzu kosho dressing gave it this bright, citrusy kick that was totally addictive. I’m already planning my next visit to try the Negitoro Bowl ($19.95).
They also have some killer Kitchen Entrees. I was tempted by the Chicken Katsu ($12.95) and Pork Katsu ($12.95), but I was really feeling the bowls. Good to know for next time! And don't forget the sides — a simple White Rice ($2.50) or Brown Rice ($2.50) can round out your meal perfectly. They also have other drinks like Coke/Diet Coke/Ginger Ale ($2.00).
More Than Just a Meal
After stuffing my face (no regrets!), I decided to explore Southington a little more. I popped into The Bristol Bazaar, and spent way too long browsing the unique antiques and vintage finds. It's the perfect place to find a quirky souvenir or a one-of-a-kind gift. I almost bought a vintage teacup, but I figured I’d break it on the drive home. Next time for sure!
And before heading home, I made a pit stop at Nature's Art Village. The whole place is so quirky, I grabbed some cool gems for my garden. It’s a bit out of the way but totally worth the detour if you're into rocks, minerals, and all things sparkly!
Final Verdict
If you're anywhere near Southington, you *need* to check out Gohan Japanese Cuisine. The food is incredible, the atmosphere is great, and it's the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploring all that the area has to offer. Seriously, go for the Umami Tuna Bowl; you won't regret it. I know I'll be back soon – maybe I'll even see you there!
