A day built around one meal
Okay, pizza lovers, buckle up! I've been hearing about Giordano's "Known for deep-dish pizza, this casual chain serves other classic Italian food, plus beer & wine." for ages, and I finally made it to Chicago to see what all the fuss was about. A follower actually DM'd me pics of their last Chicago visit, and I decided that was it, I needed to check it out!
After spending the morning wandering around Millennium Park, snapping pics of Cloud Gate (aka "The Bean"), I was absolutely famished. I swear all that artistic appreciation burns calories! I remembered Giordano's was nearby, so I beelined straight there, ready to dive headfirst into some authentic Chicago deep dish. Plus, I wanted to check out Navy Pier later, so I wanted to fill up and have the energy to do it!
First things first, I had to get an appetizer. I opted for the "THE BEST" Tomato Bruschetta ($11.75). Diced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze on crispy garlic toast? Yes, please! And of course, I had to try the Mozzarella Triangles ($12.35). Lightly breaded and served with their house-made marinara sauce...yum! I also wanted to check out the Parmesan Garlic Fries ($6.25), served with ranch dipping sauce, another home run!
Now, for the main event: the deep dish! This isn't your average pizza, folks. This is a PIE. A glorious, cheese-laden, sauce-smothered pie! I decided to build my own, adding Italian sausage and extra cheese (because, why not?). The crust was perfectly golden and crispy, and the filling was just an explosion of flavor. It's definitely a fork-and-knife kind of pizza, but trust me, it's worth every single bite. They also offer a "Chicago Tavern-Style" thin crust pizza, but I was all about that deep dish life.
They also have other tempting options on the menu, like the Giordano's Italian Beef sandwich ($14.25) – slow-roasted, thinly sliced beef with au jus, sweet peppers or hot giardiniera. I was tempted by Mama's Meatball Sub ($16.65) – all beef meatballs, marinara sauce and melted mozzarella. Maybe next time! Or I can order the GIORDANO'S SAMPLER ($19.95) with Tomato Bruschetta, Boneless Chicken Nuggets, Cheesy Garlic Bread and Mozzarella Triangles.
What makes Giordano's special? It's not just the pizza; it's the whole experience. It's the friendly atmosphere, the generous portions, and the feeling that you're indulging in a true Chicago classic. It's like a warm hug in pizza form! I love that it's a casual place where you can just relax and enjoy some seriously good food.
If you're ever in Chicago, do yourself a favor and make a pilgrimage to Giordano's. It's a must-try, and a true taste of the Windy City. Just be prepared to loosen your belt a notch (or two!). After lunch, I strolled around Navy Pier, taking in the sights and sounds. What a perfect Chicago day!
