A day built around one meal
The road called, as it often does, and I found myself stretching a weekend drive through Katy. My real destination for the morning was Dig World, that fascinating construction-themed adventure park that always makes me feel like a kid again. By lunchtime, though, all that digging and exploring had worked up a serious appetite, and a quick search led me to Foodie Trucks Park, LLC.
From the moment I pulled in, the place had a good buzz about it. It’s not just a collection of trucks; it’s a well-thought-out space, inviting and clean, with plenty of covered seating. The air was a delightful mix of sizzling meats and a faint, sweet aroma – a true testament to the variety on offer. As a home cook, I appreciate seeing how different cuisines can thrive side-by-side, each bringing its best to the table.
My first stop was at the taco truck, Tacos El Porvenir. You can tell a lot about a place by its basic offerings. Their TACOS ($3.00) are a perfect example of execution. I went for the pastor, and it was everything I look for: tender, well-marinated pork with that subtle pineapple sweetness, balanced by fresh cilantro, grilled onions, and a squeeze of lime. It’s simple, but when done right, it’s pure comfort. Next up, I couldn't resist trying their QUESABIRRIAS ($12.00). These are a revelation – four cheesy, savory birria tacos served with that essential dipping broth. The rich, deeply flavorful broth is what elevates it, making each bite an experience.
I also grabbed a GORDITA ($5.00), choosing carnitas this time, filled with black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado. It's a humble dish, but incredibly satisfying, showcasing how good, fresh ingredients can make a simple meal shine. For something a bit heartier, their TORTAS ($10.00), loaded with your choice of meat, black beans, lettuce, Mexican cream, tomato, and avocado, are substantial and hit all the right notes for a satisfying lunch.
But the beauty of Foodie Trucks Park is its variety. I ventured to the Vietnamese Street Food truck, drawn by the scent of frying. Their Mama Special Egg Rolls (3) ($6.00) were fantastic: crispy, hot, and packed with flavor, clearly made with care. To balance that richness, the Grilled Pork Spring Rolls (2) ($6.00) were a refreshing counterpoint, light and vibrant with fresh herbs. And for a quirky, unexpected treat, the Vietnamese French Fries Spicy ($5.00) were surprisingly addictive – a generous portion of crispy fries tossed in a seasoning that had a nice kick without overwhelming the palate.
It’s the kind of place that truly adds to a day out. If you’re in Katy, perhaps after a morning exploring at Exploration Park, or gearing up for an energetic afternoon at Slick City Action Park, Foodie Trucks Park is an ideal spot to refuel. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food is consistently good, and the sheer choice means there’s something for everyone, whether you’re after a quick bite or a leisurely, multi-cuisine meal. It’s a grounded, honest eating experience that I’d happily recommend to anyone passing through.
