Feature Story
A day built around one meal
I had a string of errands to run that took me up towards Conway recently, and needing a break from the highway, I decided to stretch my legs. Cadron Settlement Park had been on my list for ages, so I spent a pleasant hour wandering the trails and soaking in the history. By the time I was done, I was ready for a little pick-me-up.
That's when I stumbled upon Doc's Coffee + Creamery. Tucked away, it wasn't a place I'd have found unless I was looking for it, but the promise of coffee and something sweet was too good to resist. The atmosphere inside is warm and inviting, a nice blend of modern and cozy. Not fussy, just comfortable.
I started with a classic latte ($3.75). It's a simple drink, but it speaks volumes about a coffee shop's attention to detail. The milk was steamed perfectly, with that microfoam that clings just right, and the espresso had a rich, balanced flavor. No bitterness, just smooth, satisfying coffee.
But the real draw, at least for me, was the craft latte menu. I opted for the Ozark ($5.25), a blend of maple spice and brown butter. It was a revelation. The maple wasn't cloying or artificial; it tasted like the real deal, complementing the nutty, almost caramel-like notes of the brown butter. It was the perfect drink to savor on a cool afternoon. I also sampled the Bees Knees – the honey, vanilla spice, and cinnamon blend was an excellent choice, making me wish I had a bigger stomach!
They also have a range of other classic drinks like a mocha ($4.45), white chocolate ($4.45), and even a caramel macchiato ($4.45). If coffee isn’t your thing, they have a cooler full of options, including cola, Dr. Pepper, and root beer, all at $2.50.
Later, with a caffeine buzz and a sugar rush, I considered checking out Action Jacks Family Fun & Entertainment before heading home, but decided to save it for another trip. Maybe I'd pair it with a stop at Pickles Gap Village for some unique souvenirs next time. Conway has more to offer than I realized.
Doc's Coffee + Creamery is a gem. It's not trying to be trendy or over-the-top; it's just a solid coffee shop that focuses on quality ingredients and well-executed drinks. If you find yourself in Conway, looking for a place to relax and recharge, I highly recommend stopping by. You might just discover your new favorite coffee blend.
