Feature Story
A day built around one meal
I was in Haddon Township the other day, mainly to pick up a few things at the hardware store. My errand was near Jake's Place Playground, and the warm weather beckoned, so I decided to stretch my legs a bit before heading home. After a pleasant stroll, hunger struck, and I remembered hearing good things about a low-key seafood place in the area: Crab Cove Seafood.
What struck me first about Crab Cove is its straightforwardness. There are no frills, just a focus on fresh, flavorful seafood. This isn't a place for a fancy date night, but it *is* the spot when you want a satisfying, no-nonsense seafood feast. And honestly, sometimes, that's exactly what I'm after.
I started with the Shrimp (no head), priced at a reasonable $9.99. They were perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned just right. Next, I sampled the Green Mussels for $7.00. The broth was savory and the mussels plump and juicy. It's clear they know their way around a steamer pot.
Of course, I had to try some crab. The Snow Crab Legs at $14.00 per pound were a great value, offering plenty of sweet, succulent meat. But the real star for me was the Dungeness Crab Legs at $17.00. They were simply divine. If you're feeling particularly indulgent, the King Crab Legs are on the menu for $55.00, but I find the Dungeness offers an excellent balance of flavor and price.
The menu also offers a variety of clams – Middle Neck, Little, and Manila – along with Crawfish and Lobster Tail. You can even get a ½ Dozen Crabs with shrimp, corn, potatoes, and eggs for $35.99. I appreciate the combo options; they make it easy to try a little bit of everything without breaking the bank.
While enjoying my meal, I was thinking about my family. If they had been with me, we could have taken a quick trip to Wish Upon A Star Park after lunch. It's a beautiful spot for kids to play and imagine. We might have even driven a bit further to Pennypacker Park for a nice walk.
Crab Cove Seafood isn't trying to be something it's not, and that's precisely why I like it. It's a comfortable, consistent, and reliable spot for quality seafood. If you're in the Haddon Township area and craving some crab legs or mussels, I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try. You might just find yourself becoming a regular, like me.
