A day built around one meal
Okay, friends, let me tell you about my recent Detroit adventure! I was in town visiting my bestie, Sarah, who just landed her dream job downtown. Of course, we had to celebrate! After spending the morning soaking up the sun at William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor, watching the boats glide by, and then checking out the interactive art installations at Beacon Park, my stomach started rumbling. Sarah suggested Mexican, and I'm *always* down for Mexican, so she led me to Armando's.
And wow, from the moment I walked in, I knew this place was special. The Google description doesn't lie – the Aztec warrior murals are seriously impressive! This eatery boasts colorful Aztec warrior murals, an ample menu of Mexican faves & a lunch buffet. The whole vibe is just super fun and festive.
We started with cocktails, naturally. I opted for the "Clark Park's Garden" ($14.00) – Grey Goose Essences (peach & rosemary) Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, grapefruit juice. So refreshing and perfectly balanced. Sarah got a “Classic Mojito” ($12.00) and loved it! For my entree, I went with the server's recommendation and got the enchiladas supreme. The sauce was rich and flavorful, and the filling was perfectly seasoned. Sarah got the chicken quesadilla, and it looked amazing – totally loaded with cheese and tender chicken. Next time I'm trying the Vernor Hwy Old Fashioned ($14.00), that sounds so quintessentially Detroit!
They also have an extensive list of other drinks! If you are looking for something frozen, I would suggest the Piña Colada ($9.00) or if you are looking for something on the rocks, I would suggest the El Padrino (Hennessy Margarita) ($14.00). Looking for something a little more simple? They offer liquor like Bacardi ($10.00), Malibu ($9.00) and Grey Goose ($12.00).
What really sets Armando's apart is that feeling like you're stepping into a little piece of Mexico right in the heart of Detroit. It's not just the food; it's the atmosphere, the friendly service, and the attention to detail. Even the little things, like the colorful tableware, added to the experience.
If you're ever in the Campus Martius Park area, maybe after a morning stroll, or a day of fun activities, or even visiting a friend, do yourself a favor and check out Armando's. You won't regret it! Trust me, this place is a gem. I can't wait to go back!
