A day built around one meal
Okay, y'all, you know I love a good food adventure! This past weekend, I took a little road trip to Houston to visit my college bestie. We spent the morning soaking up the sun at Discovery Green, people-watching and just enjoying the city vibes. Honestly, I hadn't really planned my eats ahead of time (a rookie mistake, I know!), but sometimes the best discoveries are the unplanned ones. And that's exactly how I found Aga's Restaurant & Catering!
After our park visit, we were driving around, and I spotted it: Aga's Restaurant & Catering. Their Google description says it's a "Relaxed strip-mall restaurant offering a variety of Indian & Pakistani favorites," and honestly, that's exactly what it is. The tagline? "Relaxed strip-mall restaurant offering a variety of Indian & Pakistani favorites." I was instantly intrigued. I hadn't had good Indian or Pakistani food in ages, and my stomach was *definitely* rumbling.
Let me tell you, this place is legit. From the moment you walk in, you're hit with the amazing aroma of spices. It's casual and comfortable, perfect for a laid-back lunch or dinner. I was immediately drawn to the extensive drink menu. I spotted the Aga's Mango Lassi for $5.99 and knew I had to try it. It was creamy, sweet, and the perfect refreshment for a hot Houston day. My friend went with the Salted Lassi for $3.99, and she loved the tangy, savory flavor.
For starters, we split an order of the Vegetable Samosas ($3.99). They were perfectly crispy on the outside and filled with a flavorful potato and pea mixture. I also couldn't resist trying the Samosa Chaat ($7.99). The combination of the samosas, chickpeas, yogurt, and chutneys was an explosion of flavor in my mouth. Seriously, SO good!
While we waited for our main courses, we started planning our next adventure in Houston. We talked about maybe hitting up Market Square Park to catch a concert another time. And my friend really wants to check out Space Center Houston, which I've heard is amazing.
Okay, back to the food! The Gobi Manchurian ($12.99) was a standout dish. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked and coated in a savory, slightly spicy sauce. I was also tempted by the Bhel Puri Chaat ($6.99) for a light bite, but I was already so stuffed. I'll definitely save that for next time!
What makes Aga's special, besides the incredible food, is the authentic feel. It's clear that they're passionate about what they do, and that passion shines through in every dish. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the flavors are out of this world.
If you're ever in Houston and looking for a delicious and authentic Indian/Pakistani meal, do yourself a favor and check out Aga's Restaurant & Catering. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you. And if you see me there, say hi! I'll probably be ordering another Mango Lassi.
